131 year after Alexander Graham Bell first filed for a patent for the telephone, you'd think I could have a land line that didn't go down every time it rains. I mean, I'm not in the middle of Bumass, Nowhere. I'm in a city that has existed for over 300 years! But no, I can't have a phone line that works when it rains. Good thing I live in the desert.

PS: Today is the 20th day in a row where temps have been 90+. Dayam! Alaska is looking pretty good right now.

You know how sometimes something seems like a good idea? Or maybe you know it's not that great idea but you GOTTA do it? But then it backfires, and you're sorry you did it? Well, today I HAD to have some red meat. I think the last time I had red meat was Valentines' Day. Anyway, the easiest place to get red meat is, of course, McDonald's. And I did. And I'm sorry.

It's been at least 90 degrees now here in Albuquerque since August 8th! What's up with that? We're supposed to be in the 80's this time of year but we're going to be flirting with 100 next week. There is no break in sight. I think our only hope is for Dean to break up over Mexico and bring us some rain by the end of the week. And I'd say that's less than likely to happen. So I guess I'll just continue to whine...

If it's possible to feel overwhelmed, lonely and restless simultaneously, then that's what I'm feeling. I should be writing a journal article for my mentor or working on my comprehensive exam but I just don't know how/where to start. But it's more than that. I don't want to start. I want to crawl into bed in an actual refrigerated air conditioned bedroom and just wake up tomorrow...

Odds & Ends

It's almost 11pm and it's still 82 degrees outside. On top of that, the swamp cooler upstairs isn't working. Ugh! I don't remember signing up for this heat. Poor kitties don't know what to do, with their fur coats and all. Suzie has this nasty habit of leaning up against me while I sleep. As nick pointed out, her body temp is 102 while mine is only 98 so compared to her, I feel cool. I can't tell you how delightful it is to have a live fur coat on you while you sleep in the desert...in the summer.

This is my last week of summer vacation. I think my fatigue from the mono may be dissipating but it sure is taking it's sweet time. Also, my tendonitis is doing better but I'm going to start having to type a bunch more once school starts. I imagine I'll just re-injure it. Don't know how to avoid it. I am going to a physical therapist tomorrow tho so hopefully she can help.

I'm starting my fourth year of grad school and I can tell you it isn't getting any easier. I'm overwhelmed and classes haven't even begun. Perhaps I'll be on the diet plan I was on when I started grad school so many years ago. That diet plan basically stated that I was too tired to eat. Worked well tho.

Apparently, it's Breast Feeding Awareness Week. Breast feeding is, according to a local radio show, and I quote: "an age old tradition."

Age old tradition? Because before this "tradition" in which all mammals particpipate, we fed our young with rocks?
